Message retention

Applies to this account's one-to-one chats on this device. Anything older than the window is deleted from this browser the next time KaChat cleans up, and it is not downloaded again. Handshakes are always kept, group chats are not affected, and "Keep forever" deletes nothing.

Node Selection

Automatic Node Scan Recommended The Kaspa public node resolver picks a healthy public node for you, the way kaspa-ng does. Nothing to set up.

Kasia Public Node Better Kasia's public node at wss://wrpc.kasia.fyi, the one the Kasia web app uses. One known operator, nothing to set up, and no scanning.

Custom Node Best Your own Kaspa wRPC endpoint, as wss://your-domain through a TLS reverse proxy (no port). A plain ws:// address such as ws://192.168.1.50:17110 works only on the same LAN, and from this https page the browser marks the site “Not secure” while it is connected and may block it in a future release.

Important

The next screen shows your seed phrase. It is the only way to recover your account: write it down and store it securely, and make sure no one can see your screen.

What is a seed phrase?

The short version

A seed phrase is a list of 12 or 24 ordinary words that works as the master key to your account. Your wallet, your chatting address and your messages all come from it.

Anyone with it can take everything

Anyone who has these words can take everything in your account. If you lose them and lose this device, nobody can get your account back, not even KaChat.

How to keep it safe

Write the words on paper, in order, and keep them somewhere safe and private. Never type them into a website, send them in a chat, or keep them in a screenshot or cloud notes.

12 or 24 words?

12 words are already very secure. 24 words add even more protection.

Write Down Your Seed Phrase

Store this in a safe place. Anyone with these words can access your account.

I have written down my seed phrase and stored it securely

Do you want to add a passphrase to your account?

Choose your passphrase

Write it down somewhere safe. Without it this account cannot be recovered, even with your seed phrase.

Passphrase Confirm Passphrase

Your chatting address

Checking...

This is the account your seed phrase opens on its own.

The short version

A passphrase is an extra word or sentence you add on top of your seed phrase. It is optional, and most people do not use one.

It does not lock your account

This is the part people get wrong. A passphrase does not put a password on your account. It opens a completely different account. Your seed phrase with no passphrase opens one account. The same seed phrase with the word "apple" opens another one. With "banana", another one again. Every passphrase is its own separate account, with its own address and its own balance.

Why anyone bothers

If someone finds your written seed phrase, they get the account it opens on its own. They do not get the one behind your passphrase, because they do not know there is one, and they could not guess it anyway.

The catch

There is no reset and no recovery. If you forget your passphrase, the account it opened is gone for good. Your seed phrase alone will not bring it back, and nobody can help you. Treat it exactly like the seed phrase itself: written down, somewhere safe, before you rely on it.

One more thing to know

If you type the wrong passphrase, nothing will tell you. You will simply land in a different account, and it will look empty. That is not a bug and your money is not lost - it just means you are in the wrong account.

So do you need one?

If you are not sure, choose No. Your account is still protected by your seed phrase, and you can always create another account with a passphrase later.

Where is this seed phrase from?

Different wallets store your Kaspa on different address paths. Pick where this seed phrase comes from so KaChat finds your funds and domains.

Create a name for your wallet

This name is only stored on this device, to tell your wallets apart. No one else will ever see it.

Choose seed phrase length

How many words is the seed phrase you're importing?

Enter your recovery phrase 0/24

Type each word, or paste the whole phrase into any slot. Only real recovery words are accepted.

Did you create this seed with a passphrase?

If you are not sure, the answer is almost certainly no. A passphrase is something you would have typed in on purpose.

Enter your passphrase

It has to be exactly what you used before, including capital letters and spaces.

So do you need one?

If you never set one up, choose No. A passphrase is something you would have typed in on purpose, so if this is the first you are hearing of it, you do not have one.

Wipe and re-sync

Select Chats

Only the selected chats have their incoming messages wiped and re-synced. Sent messages and all other chats are untouched.

Security Warning

Anyone with your seed phrase can access your account. Never share it with anyone.

This wallet also uses a passphrase. You need it together with these words to restore it.
